Chiropractic care is becoming more common among athletes and has helped many professionals to prevent injuries, enhance performance and alleviate pain. Zach Johnson won the 2015 British Open with the help from Chiropractic care.
His father, Dr. Johnson who graduated from Palmer College Of Chiropractic, says; “Zach has been receiving chiropractic care his entire life and throughout his professional career, has relied on chiropractic to help prevent, manage and treat the wide arrays of injuries that athletes are susceptible to, and to help keep his body functioning at its best”. Today his personal doctor, Dr. Van Biezen, travels with Zack and other professional golfers including 2015 Masters Tournament and U.S. Open winner, Jordan Spieth. Chiropractic care can help to improve movement and flexibility, but also prevent injuries and reduce recovery time; these are key factors in the sports world. Both Zach and Jordan have agreed to participate in FACP´s campaign called, “Champions of Chiropractic”.
Many professional athletes, one of them being the famous Usain Bolt, are getting chiropractic care. Usain recently won the 100m and the 200m World titles in Beijing, for the last few years he has dominated his sport and has the world record in a 100m sprint. Surprisingly he is diagnosed with scoliosis and says:
“When I was younger, the scoliosis wasn’t really a problem. But you grow and it gets worse. My spine was really curved badly. The early part of my career, when we didn’t really know much about it, it really hampered me because I got injured every year.”
Scoliosis can have a huge impact on your performance; it can cause difficulty with breathing. Usain was struggling with getting injured in his early years but by keeping his back strong and getting chiropractic treatments it helps him to stay free of injuries. He gets treatments on a regular basis not only to correct his abnormal curvature but even when he is without pain and discomfort his performance is enhanced. It continues to be an essential part of his training program to remain healthy and fit.
His personal chiropractor, Dr. Michael Douglas, is among many chiropractors who travels to the Olympic Games or travels along other professional athletes to other events such as Tour De France.
“I would estimate that at least 90% of world class athletes use Chiropractic on a regular basis to prevent injuries and to improve their performance” says Sean Atkins PhD Exercise Physiologist.
Chiropractic is being used in many different sports and helps the athletes not only to bounce back from injuries more quickly but to make them perform their best. Legends like Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods and Arnold Schwarzenegger have all been using chiropractic care to stay free of injuries and boost their performance to become the best and we all know them as world champions.
