My mother suffered for years with a neck problem, and it was a chiropractor who finally helped her. He was also the first to recognise the signs of her multiple sclerosis. The idea of helping patients with my knowledge and my hands appealed to me immensely, and 36+ years later, as a US board certified chiropractor in Dubai, I still love what I do. I think it shows.
Much of my week is spent with patients whose problems have not resolved elsewhere: chronic back pain, disc herniations, spinal stenosis and sciatica. I am certified in Cox Technic flexion-distraction, a gentle, research-supported method for disc and stenosis care, and where appropriate I combine it with non-surgical spinal decompression. The approach is always the same: a clear diagnosis first, then the least invasive treatment likely to genuinely help.
I received my Doctor of Chiropractic with honours from Logan University in 1990, and was among the few chiropractic interns of that era to complete hospital training, at Metropolitan Medical Centers. In 1995, after postgraduate study and US specialty examination, I earned board certification in Chiropractic Orthopaedics (DABCO) and became one of the first chiropractors in Massachusetts to be granted hospital privileges. In 2018 the University of Pittsburgh certified me as a Primary Spine Practitioner, and in 2019 I earned Diplomate status from the International Academy of Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (DIANM), a specialty board focused on pain syndromes and neuromusculoskeletal conditions. I hold four licences to practise in the United States and one in Dubai.
Many patients come to me after months of treatment elsewhere, or when surgery has been recommended and they want another view. I will give you an honest assessment. If chiropractic care is not the right answer for you, I will say so and point you to the right person, whether that is a colleague within the clinic or a medical specialist.
I served two years as President of the Emirates Chiropractic Association, the professional body for chiropractors in the UAE, plus two years as its Immediate Past President and four as Vice President. Earlier in my career I taught and mentored chiropractic students and interns in California, an experience I found deeply rewarding. Away from the clinic I am the proud dad of three grown children, a keen golfer with a hole-in-one to my name, and an advanced open water scuba diver.
Cox Technic is a gentle, hands-on technique performed on a specially designed table that slowly stretches and decompresses the spine. It is well suited to disc herniations, spinal stenosis and sciatica because it avoids forceful twisting. Gerry is certified in the method and combines it with other drug-free treatments after a thorough assessment at our Umm Suqeim clinic.
Yes. Many patients see Gerry after surgery or injections have been recommended, to understand whether conservative care is still worth trying. He reviews your history, imaging and examination findings, then gives an honest view. If chiropractic care is not appropriate, he will tell you and help direct you to the right specialist. No referral is needed.
Many disc herniations improve with conservative care, and international guidelines recommend trying non-surgical treatment first in most cases. Gerry uses Cox Technic flexion-distraction and non-surgical spinal decompression to reduce pressure on the disc and nerves, alongside advice and exercise. Assessment comes first, so you know exactly what is causing your pain before treatment begins.
It means passing additional postgraduate specialty examinations beyond the standard chiropractic degree. Gerry holds board certification in Chiropractic Orthopaedics (1995) and Diplomate status from the International Academy of Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (2019), plus Primary Spine Practitioner certification from the University of Pittsburgh. These credentials reflect decades of assessed, examined training in diagnosing and managing spine conditions.
Same-day appointments are often available. The clinic is open every day from 8:30am to 7pm, at Villa 119, Al Thanya Street, Umm Suqeim 2. You do not need a referral, and our front desk team can help you check whether your insurance covers chiropractic care.
